A HISTORY OF 157 YEARS IN CYPRUS

2008

Commercial General Insurance Ltd becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of the Christophides Group. Commercial General Insurance Ltd disposes its subsidiary in Greece Activa Insurance SA to the Greek insurance company EFG Eurolife General Insurance SA, member of the Eurobank EFG group.

2007

Commercial Union Assurance (Cyprus) Ltd changes its name to Commercial General Insurance Ltd and that of its Greek subsidiary to Activa Insurance SA.

2003

Commercial Union Assurance (Cyprus) Ltd acquires 100% of the share capital of the AVIVA Group’s Greek subsidiary, CGU Hellas SA.

2000

CGU Insurance and Norwich Union merge worldwide to form CGNU Insurance, later renamed AVIVA Group.

1998

Commercial Union and General Accident merge worldwide to form CGU Insurance.

1973

Commercial Union Assurance plc and the Christophides Group form Commercial Union Assurance (Cyprus) Ltd.

1925

Employers Liability Assurance, later part of Commercial Union appoints Cleanthis Christophides as agents in Cyprus.

1905

The first Fire Policy for Commercial Union is issued in Larnaca for a sum insured of £150, annual premium 7s 6d.

1890

The Imperial Ottoman Banking Company are appointed as Marine agents for Commercial Union Assurance in Larnaca.  

1878

Henry S. King are appointed agents in Larnaca for North British and Mercantile.
